Feeling So Busy
How many times have we gotten frustrated, anxious, stressed or complained how busy or long our days have been at work? How many times have we said, oh my gosh, it’s been such a long !@#$ day? Then to only come home and want to relax but have to clean up the kitchen, cook, or finish that load of laundry? And if you have kids, you know you’re running here, running there and throwing them in the shower, checking homework and running the bedtime routine.
Yea, you know what I’m talking about gals, right?
Meditation as Your Crutch
Well meditation is one way to help keep you centered and grounded throughout the day as your stress level increases. It may seem counterintuitive to have to do one more thing during a busy day, but it’s actually the opposite effect.
Meditation as defined by Dr. Itai Itzvan is simply the retraining of attention. I like this simple definition because it acknowledges that our brain in fact will waver going here and going there and that is completely normal. It does not mean that you are not meditating when that happens. What it means is that as you meditate (and there are TONS of ways to meditate gals not just one way but another post for another day), you can train your brain to come back to a particular point of awareness like the breath or focus on a tree, flower, candle.
The point of meditation is to get clarity and ground yourself so you can connect to your inner self or higher self. This is where you can learn to connect with your soul, feel peace, receive guidance.
So here are 3 sure fire reasons to meditate throughout your day and how you might go about putting this into practice:
- Morning meditation: Morning meditation is a foundational time to practice meditation as it sets your mind up for a positive day. It is where you can set a positive intention for your day and truly breath and be grateful for waking up. Meditation in the morning is the #1 time you want to do it if nothing else. And don’t feel like you have to take tons of time to do this, a few mins is all it takes. I offer a free positive day meditation for download that is 4.30 mins if you are interested in trying a guided meditation.
- Mid-Day Meeting Meditation: This meditation is one you can do in between business meetings or for example, running the kids around. Again, it only takes a few minutes to do and can recenter you before having to present to the executives or to your team, its a way to refocus and get some clarity and stress relief. By mid-morning, our days are usually getting quite busy so it’s a key time to take a few minutes to do a mid-day reset for connecting to our inner self.
- Evening Meditation: Practicing an evening meditation can really bring the peace and calm to your night-time routine. If you have trouble sleeping, or turning off your brain, practicing an evening meditation is a great way to calm yourself. The practice of meditation has actually proven to reduce anxiety and stress (something we all likely suffer from) so its a natural holistic way to get relief. Evening meditations you might choose to be a bit longer, perhaps 10 – 15 minutes. This can really allow you to decompress, feel peaceful and calm. I personally really like soft calming music like Liquid Mind to do evening meditations. And if you suffer from being able to fall asleep, evening meditation is for sure a must practice.
Practicing Meditation Consistently
Many people may struggle with meditation as I did when I first started, but if you are really struggling try different types of meditation and keep with it consistently. Our brains need to be trained and turning off devices can help us with ‘squirrel brain’ and over time, it becomes easier and just like when you work out and your body craves the workout, your mind will crave meditation so give it a try for a few weeks and stick with it.
Taking the time to connect to your inner self brings much more clarity, reduction in stress and anxiety and gives you that extra ‘oomph’ to get through the day feeling less busy and more in control. Try it and let me know.
I’d really love to hear what kind of meditation works for you and what practice you have created that brings you clarity and peace! I’ve created a Positive Day meditation for you to try as well! Feel free to share about your experience in the comments below!
With healing love gals,
